WHO WE ARE

Foothills Children’s Advocacy Center, a Charlottesville nonprofit, has provided compassionate, team-based support to children and families affected by abuse since 2006.

OUR VISION

We envision a world where every child who has experienced abuse can safely share their story with someone who listens, believes them, and supports their journey towards healing.

OUR MISSION

Foothills Children’s Advocacy Center is a caring place for children. It’s where they will be heard, feel supported and start to heal. Foothills works with community partners to make sure children and the people who care about them get the help they need.

OUR VALUES

Our values are the core beliefs and principles that matter most to us. Living in alignment with these values brings us closer to our best selves. This means intentionally guiding our interactions and work by these values, ensuring our actions reflect what we hold dear.

Building and nurturing collaborative relationships is critical to the success of our work. By listening to needs, sharing resources, and bridging gaps, we build relationships with children, families, and partner agencies to ensure an environment where the needs of those most impacted are centered. This environment allows us to work together towards meaningful and lasting impact for every child and family we serve.

Foothills welcomes everyone with kindness and empathy. We recognize that abuse, neglect, and witnessing violence has a great impact on children and their families, and we provide individualized support, resources, and partner agency coordination as a path towards healing. Our staff, board, and team partners receive the same kindness, empathy and resources to support the roles they play in healing.

Healing begins at Foothills. We are dedicated to helping children and families move through the aftermath of abuse, neglect, or witnessing violence by offering comprehensive services: access to on-site medical care, a nationally recognized child-led interview process, partner agency team coordination, and customized resources to families as they navigate this experience. Our priority is ensuring that children are not re-victimized by the process and are provided with a path toward resilience, hope, and recovery.
Excellence drives everything we do. We strive to be known for providing the highest quality of service. We are committed to making decisions that ensure every interaction with children, families, and our partner agencies exemplifies trust, care, and a dedication to long-term healing.
We honor the lived experiences, perspectives, and needs of children, families, partner agency members, and our staff. We are committed to meeting individuals where they are on their journey and responding without judgement in a way that is age and culturally appropriate. We believe in the inherent dignity of children, and our programs reflect that.
